Equine Assisted Counselling/Psychotherapy (EAP) - 60min session
Glenhaven Equine Assisted Counselling follows the EAGALA and ARCH framework within Equine Assisted Counselling and Learning sessions. As facilitators we come with a collaborative mindset, believing that the client is the expert in their experiences, committed to working with the client, to support them in finding the best solutions to their challenges and reaching their goals.
Sessions are client-led. We believe the client is in charge of their life and choices, promoting empowering mindsets, and the belief that clients’ have the innate capability to grow, learn and access their unique strengths and gifts. In this the client is given complete freedom to explore different potential solutions to their obstacles, creating a safe and intentional space for the client’s personal resources to be activated, enabling them freedom to be who they are, and to make uniquely personal decisions.
Equine Assisted Learning/Personal Development (EAL) - 60min session
EAL is a unique approach to experiential learning, where clients are offered safe experiences with horses for the purpose of learning social-emotional skills and personal development. We work with individuals and families.
Benefits of EAL programs include life skills such as: Resilience, social skills, communication, boundaries, problem-solving and self-regulation.
An example of an EAL program offered is ‘Power Tools for Living’ which focuses on developing key life skills, such as respect, boundaries, responsibilities, choices and consequences.
Equine Assisted Counselling and Learning frameworks used:
EAGALA (Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association)
Eagala is the gold standard of equine therapy, as it is a research-based, structured framework for Equine Assisted Counselling and Learning.
The model requires a licensed, credentialed Mental Health Professional and a qualified Equine Specialist who structure sessions, incorporating horses to effectively address the client’s treatment plan or learning goals.
ARCH (Arenas For Change)
Arch framework includes Narrative, Collaborative, Values based and Solution-Focused Therapies, its worldview being that people's reality exists in language and stories and that people can change when their stories change.
An ARCH program offered and utilised for clients is ‘SURVIVING 2 THRIVING’. A Horse-Human Intervention Promoting Flourishing, Meaning and Hope.
